Logos History

The Friends of the Davis Public Library (FDPL) took a courageous leap of faith and made a bet on its ability to run a bookstore.  Retiring owners Peter and Susan Linz had hoped for another nonprofit organization to move into the space of Logos Books, and the Friends signed a lease for the store in downtown Davis beginning February 2017.  Thanks to a lot of hard work, time, and patience, FDPL is making a success of this endeavor to this day.

… and Logos Books today

The Friends of the Davis Public Library receives thousands of books every year as tax-deductible donations, some of which are routed to Logos Books for sale.

At Logos Books, the 20+ volunteer Area Experts curate the store’s 75+ book sections. It is their job to acquire and price books for their sections, display them properly, and manage their shelf life. Area Experts get their stock from the donated books evaluated by Friends’ sorters and from Area Experts selecting books at the Friends’ Monthly Book Sales.

The success of the entire operation – from the time a book is donated to when a patron sees it on offer at Logos Books – can be attributed to the many dedicated volunteers who wholeheartedly support the mission of the Friends of the Davis Public Library.
